This is by no means a rant against Rawat, I should not speak ill of the dead, just "honorable mention" in criticism, ha ha.
It is only the social aspects of idiocracy that explains why the talking heads are hyping up General Rawat's death -- just do the 21 gun salute and get it over with (In a philosophical outlook, I don't think there is a single thing that has not happened for the greater good). As of now, one must learn from what failed in the past order and care to not repeat such mistakes, not bury their heads in the sand only to repeat the error, as biorobots always do. So a suggestion (if the talking heads can even understand) -- when General Rawat died, he was some 'uge bigshot for the powers, so he left a power vacuum. And now, try neutralizing this power vacuum by opening it to nonlinear thinkers (as is the universal norm), not acidifying it, exploiting it for more power, because if you do that again, entropy will hit back again at inefficient order, there will be some other kind of accident, because entropy, represented by life and unlife, always erodes inefficient social order... The military was made by the thinkers, to defend good (considerate, nonlinear thinking people, who are the ones who actually maintain civilization against the onslaught of the more parasitic cultures).
So, the military was made for the thinkers, and only if thinkers lead the military, can its abuse for profit by cultist bashibazouks be prevented (Such abuse is symptomatic of rotten regimes that are near collapse).
It's not a question of who paid for or manufactured certain weapon systems (like profit-oriented companies like Adani small arms; in fact such was the fascist vulnerability of Nazi Germany also; all this is merely enteric, and not a sign of nonlinear thinking, or true leadership) -- the military is not a private group but deeply linked to the public, especially the true civilian leaders of the public, the nonlinear thinkers (not the cultural elitists of some cult like the Midday Sun cult) -- this can indeed be called the renaissance understanding.
The question in front of the intellectual leadership of the military is not the how of war, but the why of war, not the "how to do this, which we have to do", but "what else can be done, that is better", it is a matter of rejecting the simplistic ideas that might seem self-evident to most (e.g. "slaughter the neighboring tribe" etc.).
So the military must be close to the public nonlinear thinkers; the closest approximation long ago was sport, so Zeus is said to have invented the Olympic games; later, chess was seen as closer to the intellect; and after Alekhine's abuse by the Nazis and the unreliability of the idea of isolated "chess world champions", in our times, the public nonlinear thinkers are seen as the steampunks, here meaning what we find of such a personality type on earth, that is, the public, cheating-free PC gamers...
In fact across the world, ever since the steampunks took the DMZ, as the steampunks' British centurion tanks steamrolled the Midday Sun cult Himalayan British Raj's Cromwell tanks in 1951, and especially after the eclipse of Gary Kasparov by Deep Blue (the placeholder for the public gamers), and the maturity of the idea of competitive gaming in our times -- the Men of War PC gamer community, nominally represented by us pro gamers, is by convention seen as closest to earth's steampunks, with a de facto proximity to the military since WW2 (because the real leaders of the public won the no man's lands, and hold military and arms supremacy, even if the less public-friendly classes may have won in the parliaments etc.).
This is the civilized elven method, it does not assume hierarchy or create an elitist system: the military leadership should have a relationship with those proven to be better nonlinear thinkers by a game or some such experiment; such are usually closer to the public interest, not private interest groups who claim to be the leaders of humanity because of a divine right to rule etc. -- this is important if the military must remain true to its objective of defending civilization from a dark age of ignorance where good and bad are interchanged in misconceptions thanks to the fulsome discourse of false priests and myopic politicians.
That phase of history is far behind us; religious leaders like Mussolini were the short-lived exceptions, not the norm of modern leadership... leading the military to efficiently defend and ensure the thriving of the real public (not parasitic elites, early man types suffering from a delusion of being "we the people")... is not about reading many biased books, or passing exams before a panel of bureaucrats, or about being in the good books of some powerful bureaucrat like some heavily networking former defense secretary who is already talking about putting the next cannonball in some cannon of idiocracy!
Due to the tendency of evil to infiltrate and hijack the establishment, only nonlinear thinkers can lead the civilizational defence, not some establishment-friendly lecturer or author published in multiple journals with many peer citations by establishment-friendly "peers" specializing in the "peer pressure" of sodomy politics.
To be a real leader, is about steering towards victory, doing the job of a leader, not increasing enteric fulfillment. It is a different mental process that involves a Spartan method using as less as possible, not staying on top using a social hierarchy and support of a religious structure (and yes, officers are more important in an army specifically in this Indian situation, and think twice about NCOs with some "special rights"). That corrupt elitist-friendly can terrorize itself into place, since the tentacles of corruption reach everywhere and have a common origin, but it is not a kind of leadership acceptable to soldiers.
Generals are neither born, nor made, but have to earn the respect of thinkers who know how it is to make reasonable sacrifices for greater causes; otherwise it will be a dysfunctional relationship, if you can imagine the military at its highest level, as a headless chicken.
I don't particularly want to insult Rawat or scapegoat him for the errors of the lobbyists and cultists who used him as a patsy and puppet in the "king for a day, fool for a lifetime" tradition (more like lord till death, hard afterlife), but it must be said that someone like that, who displayed good networking skill, and was polite to bigshots and harsh on the young (who only protest the army's hijack by such parasitic cultist elements who misuse it to rape and pillage) and is harsh on outnumbered Asian thinkers in being closer to the pious trolls [REF footnote], a bit of a classical nepotist whose dynasty follows his footsteps, is not a suitable leader of modern men; perhaps indeed of early men, but the undeniable fact is that the modern man belongs to the modern man not the early man.
Thus just the fact that certain pious elitist IIT Madras unilever babus who look down upon the public, believe that someone is fit to lead the terran military, does not make it so; reality does not permit what is not ideal for all -- and the feasibility of the idea of sacrificing the rights of the thinking few for the "interests" of an increasingly numb and dumb majority is more illusory than it might look to most. It is absurd to lead the military of a nation like India while being closer to bigshots in the Pakistan or Chinese armies or the United Nations (rather than to the nonlinear thinking intellectuals of India/Asia e.g. steampunks), and this is so by them all being secretly members of the extremely ancient cult of the Midday Sun, the source of terrorism, the hardest to understand foe of the public defense...

Nobody is entirely perfect and he was not even close to being perfect, though apparently many local talking heads saw him as some mahatma general, but the question is, who are they anyway, idiots until proven otherwise in idiocracy...
Rawat was a perhaps a nice man, well, perhaps, eh? In some narrow appraisal at least. But alas, not great enough to be a "chief of defense staff", an office that should not in fact exist because basically it takes orders directly from the Midday Sun cultists' enslaved lord, wants to enslave earthlings and turn India into another nation of "minions". The bell tolls for only those who refuse to see how... whatever they feel, entropy and time marches on!
