What I see is manipulation of present laws as regards farm produce. Firstly, its the 'aadhitya', almost all of whom have political backing, who is the winner in the present system. All farmers have to sell through these middlemen at the rate they decide, paying commission to them AND tax to the state. No wonder that it's Punjab who has maximum problems with these bills. Secondly, because of MSP, the farmer tends to produce inferior quality of produce as he is sure that through existing channels he will not be at a loss even after paying to middlemen and government officials. This inferior quality of produce is literally of no use and just rots in the silos. Exporting such produce is just unthinkable. And ultimately it is the taxpayers money that gets misused.
